-
- Ok. Basically, Chainsaw *is* KSU, with lots of new options and neat features
- added. Empire has many variations, all build on top of each other:
-
- There where several archaic versions from various sources, one of which being
- PSL.
- BSD 1.1 took PSL and rewrote it. BSD is the basis for modern empire.
- KSU added and expanded to BSD: It added bmap, several option, ship names and
- the renaming of planes (fighter 1's to Sopwith Camels, for example)
- Merc expanded on KSU, and added more neato features
- Chainsaw expands on Merc and adds lots of neat options, like slow_war and
- the move command emulating exploring (can't remember what that is called)
-
- The point is, Chainsaw can be made to run just like KSU (or even BSD). It
- is basically just a collection of optional patches applied to the earlier
- versions.
-
- In short, Chainsaw is the correct one to port.
-
-
- (Then there are other miscellaneous versions, like Kansas State (the other KSU)
- and the fabled BSD2.0, but they are not important)
-
- More information can be found in Versions of Empire, a monthly faq in
- rec.games.empire.
