  13. Ok, I've been puzzling over this the last couple of weeks, and I'm stumped.

  15. I can run the latest Xfree86 on .97pl2 (contrary to the README) with the
  16. mono server and low-res just fine.  But, if I boot anything over .98, the
  17. VGA goes into graphics mode with a mostly blank screen, and dies, leaving
  18. me in graphics mode...

  20. I'm currently trying a .98pl4 kernel, using the EXTENDED_VGA display in the
  21. makefile, and leaving out all the SCSI drivers except the Seagate.
  22. Otherwise, it's a default kernel.  Video card is an ATI Integra (28800-5
  23. chipset), in case someone thinks that matters.

  25. Now, what I'm getting under the screen when the X server comes up:

  37. This was captured this morning.  In tests with another terminal hooked to
  38. /dev/ttys2 and stderr/stdout redirected to it, I also saw something about
  39. an unexpected signal 2 and waiting for the X server to shut down.

  41. I also get the same stuff when I run it as X -pn, so it isn't just the fact
  42. that TCP/IP is compiled in but not set up.  Or maybe it is and I don't know
  43. it.

  45. If anyone else has seen this behavior, and has figured out what to do about
  46. it, I'd appreciate some pointers.  And if this was covered a few weeks back
  47. and I missed it, well, sorry about that, too...
