  13.   I just recently got around to killing off my DOS on my other HD, and then
  14. proceeded to re-lowlevel it, double check the bad blocks etc.
  15.   Then, fdisk in Linux, make a 40 meg part, and then mkfs for the 40 meg.
  16. I mounted it under /u, works fine...until...
  17.   
  18.    When I try to use a large file, like copying a dir structure...it chokes..
  19. with the following messages:

  21. HD: read_intr: status = 0x59
  22. HD: read_intr: error - 0x80
  23. HD-controller reset
  24. harddisk I/O error
  25. dev 0302, sector 3104  (the sectors vary....)

  27.   And this goes on for a bit and then its done, fsck says its ok..but on large
  28. un-taring and such...it'll do this for ages....any ideas why and how to fix?

  30.  Sys config:  486 25mhz (no cache)
  31.           2 x ST251-1 40 meg MFM harddrives (Both on WD controller).
  32.           8 meg ram
  33.           SLS Linux .098p1

  35. I never had any problems with the first 40 meg....but once the second
  36. is in place....the second just keeps spitting.  When I used Mtools
  37. to transfer between the two before, it worked great, on huge files and
  38. everything....so I know hardware is ok.  But when its re-formated for
  39. Linux....*gasp*.  :)
