- I just recently got around to killing off my DOS on my other HD, and then
- proceeded to re-lowlevel it, double check the bad blocks etc.
- Then, fdisk in Linux, make a 40 meg part, and then mkfs for the 40 meg.
- I mounted it under /u, works fine...until...
-
- When I try to use a large file, like copying a dir structure...it chokes..
- with the following messages:
-
- HD: read_intr: status = 0x59
- HD: read_intr: error - 0x80
- HD-controller reset
- harddisk I/O error
- dev 0302, sector 3104 (the sectors vary....)
-
- And this goes on for a bit and then its done, fsck says its ok..but on large
- un-taring and such...it'll do this for ages....any ideas why and how to fix?
-
- Sys config: 486 25mhz (no cache)
- 2 x ST251-1 40 meg MFM harddrives (Both on WD controller).
- 8 meg ram
- SLS Linux .098p1
-
- I never had any problems with the first 40 meg....but once the second
- is in place....the second just keeps spitting. When I used Mtools
- to transfer between the two before, it worked great, on huge files and
- everything....so I know hardware is ok. But when its re-formated for
- Linux....*gasp*. :)

- Note: Pleas reply in the newgroup
