- I would greatly appreciate any help any of you gurus out there can
- provide. I have a AMD 386DX-40 based PC, with a SVGA card employing
- NCR's 77C22E chip. I have been trying to get Linux to boot from the
- boot diskette, and it seems to load, but I get nothing on my screen.
- Here is what I did :
- 1) Obtained the boot and root images from tsx-11.mit.edu and rawrote
- them to two 1.2M floppies.
- 2) Inserted the boot floppy into my A: drive and rebooted the system.
- At this point, I get the word 'Loading' followed by a number of
- periods (everything looks good so far).
- 3) After a few seconds of this (about one line of periods), the screen
- flashes blank, but the diskette is still being accessed.
- 4) Thinking that perhaps this is a normal occurence, I waited until
- the diskette had stopped being accessed, inserted the rootimage
- diskette, and hit <Enter>
- 5) The drive was accessed for about 60 seconds, and then stopped. After
- this, every time I press <Enter>, the diskette is momentarily
- accessed, as if the passwd file (or some file) is getting accessed.
- Anyway, has anyone encountered this problem? Does anyone else have
- this type of video adapter? I'm hoping that I just need to change
- something in the BIOS setup.
- BTW, this card is recognized and works fine under MS-DOS as a
- normal VGA card. Still, I must suspect the card. Actually, I'm really
- hoping that it's just user error :-)
- Any help would be greatly appreciated.
