- Lately I seem to be having problems with GCC and X11. I have been
- runnging Linux flawlessly since September but these problems have
- crept up in the last week. First the problems. X11 doesn't seem
- to want to start all the time. The server starts up, and the ghost
- image from the last session pops up on the screen, and then everything
- hangs. I am not sure if the entire system hangs because I can't do
- remote logins (yet). My caps-lock and a macro key (Gateway Anykey
- Keyboard) also hang X if I get it started. Now the GCC problem. I
- go the syslogd source from sunsite and tried to compile it, but the
- compile failed. /usr/include/unistd.h spewed out pages of warnings
- about parse error before const on lines that const char* stuff on it.
- I know this compiles because one of my friends compiled it on his
- machine.
-
- These problems seemed to pop up after I installed 0.98pl5 and then
- recompiled 0.98pl3 because of binaries breaking. Does anyone have any
- ideas what I could have done to my system?
-
- My system:
- Gateway 2000 486/33C with 64Meg Micronis MB
- Diamond Speedstar+
- Linux 0.98pl3 with TCP and without SCSI
- Two partitions:
- 60 Meg Minix filesystem mounted on /
- 140 Meg Ext filesystem mountd on /usr/local
- GCC 2.2.2d7 (4.1 jump libs)
- XFree86 1.1
