- Hello Linux users,
-
- Thanks to those people who answered some of my questions regarding swap
- files and funny VGA behaviour. I decided yesterday to download the latest SLS
- packages, since my others were of various versions and didn't get along too
- well with each other. Now I have yet another problem:
-
- Although I am sure the SLS package is great, the documentation does appear to
- be lacking some vital information on _exactly_ what to do to get the install
- process started. Here is what I have done so far....
-
- 1. Download a1.z and a2.z (98pl5)
-
- 2. uncompress a1.z and rawrite the resulting file to a floppy. This is the
- boot floppy. This boots OK. However, the installation software asks you
- to insert the 'utilities' disk. What is this?
-
- 3. Since a2.z is 1.1Mb there is no point uncompressing it since it won't go
- on a floppy. I rawrite the file a2.z to a floppy and assume this is the
- 'utilities' disk. When I tell the install program that I have inserted it
- it bombs out with...
-
- "MINIX-fs magic match failed"
- "mount: /dev/fd0h1200 already mounted or /user busy"
-
- Then I get a few more messages and a # prompt. I can't do anything at the
- prompt since there are no executables available. End of story.
-
- O.K. So why do I get this? Where are the _REAL_ instructions?
-
- By the way, I've read the FAQs and every document I can get my hands on. None
- of them really tell you what to do.
-
- Some help please???
-
- Cheers!
-
- Chris.
