- Actually the microchannel is not that different than the ISA bus as far as
- software is concerned. Low memory is almost identical. The CMOS has been
- extended, not changed wholesale.
-
- In working with another OS company who ported their Unix to PS/2 machines,
- they only had to make some "minor" changes to their "esdi" driver to have
- it work on microchannel machines. I think one problem was they did not
- read the status register after each interrupt which is required to reset it.
- PS/2 machines use level sensitive interrupts instead of edge triggered ones
- on ISA machines. More reliable.
-
- Our company makes PS/2 compatible systems and also do our own PS/2 BIOS
- (both "C" and "A"). One of my tasks here is to be the Unix liason. I am new
- to this newsgroup so I am not aware of what has been said in this newsgroup
- previously. Maybe I can be of assistence in "porting" this OS to
- microchannel machines.
