- I'm trying to determine appropriate timing information
- for the "VGA-compatible" LCD display on my NEC ProSpeed
- 386. Neither the owners manual nor the maintenance manual
- give this information. Has anybody actually gotten X working
- on one of these? I've tried bringing up the monochrome
- server, using the clock rates of 25 and 28 MHz (which is what
- the server returns) and the official VESA timing for VGA.
-
- X comes up, but the display is essentially trashed (dark
- vertical lines moving randomly when the mouse is moved), with
- either a gray stipple pattern in the left 2/3 of the display area
- or pure white in the left 2/3, depending on the "cursor" is located
- (some experimentation with xterm has confirmed that the "pure
- white" pattern is displayed when the cursor is located within
- an xterm window, and the stipple pattern is displayed when it's
- not). In all cases, the right 1/3 of the screen consists of thin
- vertical lines. This suggests (to me) that my timing information is
- way off. Where do I go from here?
