  13. I don't like cluttering the net with questions that I know have been asked,
  14. and probably answered (in email, since I have seen not responses).

  16. I have a Paradise VGA card expanded up to 512k (its kinda old).
  17. It seems I am fortunate in some repsects that I have loaded X in both
  18. 800x600 mono, and 640x480 color.

  20. Am I right in believing there are two different binary X files for this?
  21. Because in order to switch between the two, I've not only been editing
  22. my Xconfig, but rename my X file as well.

  24. The Bad Part.... It was sheer luck that I got it to work (okay, maybe not
  25. all luck) by copying the VESA clock values in the sample Xconfig, editing
  26. the clock values to match the DB, getting rid of duplicate values, etc.  This
  27. took quite a bit of tinkering, and I don't quite understand all of
  28. what I did!!!

  30. SO, my main question, besides where to find a FAQ devoted entirely to
  31. setting up Xconfig,

  33. Can I run X in 800x600x16, or even 1024x7?? mono?  Is there any support
  34. for 512k cards, or is it basically you have 1024k, or you are stuck with
  35. generic VGA.

  37. One last question about video.  What determines how much memory you have
  38. available for virtual screens, your video card or your computers memory?
