  13. New Product Announcement: VoxelBox Volume Renderer for Windows

  15.     WINCHESTER, MA, Nov. 1, 1992 -- Jaguar Software Inc. is proud
  16. to announce VoxelBox, the first commercially available volume renderer
  17. for the PC. Volume rendering is a direct technique for visualizing
  18. three dimensional scalar fields(volumes), which often arise in the
  19. study of scientific, technical and medical data. VoxelBox's innovative
  20. rendering algorithms make it possible to render volumes on a PC at
  21. interactive speeds. Until recently, this technology has only been
  22. available on expensive workstations and mainframes, now Jaguar
  23. Software is making it available on any 386 or higher class PC or
  24. compatible running Windows.

  26.     VoxelBox allows the user to take data, which was formerly
  27. viewed as slices, and view it as a three dimensional cube. Color
  28. values can be directly mapped to the scalar values in the volume to
  29. visualize the data(such as temperature, bone density, matter density,
  30. electron cloud density, etc.). In addition, transparency values can be
  31. mapped to the volume, based on ranges in the scalar field, to
  32. highlight and display the 3D shape of those ranges. This quantum leap
  33. from 2D to 3D visualization of data will give the user a much more
  34. intuitive understanding of their data.

  36.     VoxelBox was designed with the scientist/technical
  37. professional in mind and to that end has a very powerful, yet simple
  38. to use graphical user interface. This includes an extensive on-line
  39. help system, an intuitive bounding box for manipulating the volume, an
  40. easy-to-use color/transparency mapping editor which incorporates
  41. histogram and slice displays, a simple key frame system for
  42. automatically generating animations and a point-and-click interface
  43. for importing custom user data formats. More advanced features include
  44. gradient shading for creating lighting effects on the volume and
  45. shadows and reflections which enhance visualization, especially in
  46. conjunction with animations.

  48.     System requirements are a 386 or 486 based cpu running Windows
  49. 3.x, at least 4MB of memory(although 8MB is recommended for very large
  50. volumes), and a video board capable of displaying at least 256
  51. colors(such as Super VGA). If using advanced rendering features, a
  52. coprocessor(i.e., 387 or 486DX) is recommended.

  55. $325(plus 5% sales tax in MA). Jaguar is the leader in 3D
  56. visualization technology on the PC.
