- New Product Announcement: VoxelBox Volume Renderer for Windows
-
- WINCHESTER, MA, Nov. 1, 1992 -- Jaguar Software Inc. is proud
- to announce VoxelBox, the first commercially available volume renderer
- for the PC. Volume rendering is a direct technique for visualizing
- three dimensional scalar fields(volumes), which often arise in the
- study of scientific, technical and medical data. VoxelBox's innovative
- rendering algorithms make it possible to render volumes on a PC at
- interactive speeds. Until recently, this technology has only been
- available on expensive workstations and mainframes, now Jaguar
- Software is making it available on any 386 or higher class PC or
- compatible running Windows.
-
- VoxelBox allows the user to take data, which was formerly
- viewed as slices, and view it as a three dimensional cube. Color
- values can be directly mapped to the scalar values in the volume to
- visualize the data(such as temperature, bone density, matter density,
- electron cloud density, etc.). In addition, transparency values can be
- mapped to the volume, based on ranges in the scalar field, to
- highlight and display the 3D shape of those ranges. This quantum leap
- from 2D to 3D visualization of data will give the user a much more
- intuitive understanding of their data.
-
- VoxelBox was designed with the scientist/technical
- professional in mind and to that end has a very powerful, yet simple
- to use graphical user interface. This includes an extensive on-line
- help system, an intuitive bounding box for manipulating the volume, an
- easy-to-use color/transparency mapping editor which incorporates
- histogram and slice displays, a simple key frame system for
- automatically generating animations and a point-and-click interface
- for importing custom user data formats. More advanced features include
- gradient shading for creating lighting effects on the volume and
- shadows and reflections which enhance visualization, especially in
- conjunction with animations.
-
- System requirements are a 386 or 486 based cpu running Windows
- 3.x, at least 4MB of memory(although 8MB is recommended for very large
- volumes), and a video board capable of displaying at least 256
- colors(such as Super VGA). If using advanced rendering features, a
- coprocessor(i.e., 387 or 486DX) is recommended.
-
- VoxelBox is now available at an introductory price of
- $325(plus 5% sales tax in MA). Jaguar is the leader in 3D
- visualization technology on the PC.
