  12. One more additional note:  8-bit CODEC mulaw is the standard format for  
  13. low-quality sound files on the NeXT, which has made the term more common  
  14. what with all the NeXT music question stuff.  The NeXT's microphone  
  15. records in mulaw.  The NeXT likewise has utilities, both command-line and  
  16. graphical, for converting between mulaw and 16-bit, 22 or 44KhZ.
