- I have made a program called MidiTracker which plays MOD files thru a MIDI
- equipment. It is ofcourse very experimental and probably does not do what
- Jerry Lee would want (it cannot save MIDI files, for example), but it is
- quite amusing, I think. It requires an MPU-401 midi interface. It can
- upload the MOD samples to Akai X-7000 or S-700 sampler, so when one has
- such an equipment MidiTracker beats all the current module players that
- use SoundBlaster by far (sound quality -wise).
-
- Based on MidiTracker it would not be very hard to make a program to save
- the conversion result as a midifile instead of playing it. I do not have
- time to try that, though. I also made a program that inputs a MIDI file
- and a set of samples and outputs a MOD file. There are much more problems
- in the conversion this way, so I did not finish it.
-
- I can e-mail MidiTracker (including Turbo-C sources) if someone wants
- to look at it. Oh, I almost forgot to mention, it works only on IBM
- compatibles and requires VGA and mouse in addition to MPU-401. I never
- intended to make it a wide-audience program... :-)
