- Dartmouth College offers a two-year program leading to a Master of Arts
- degree in electro-acoustic music. The program combines study in music,
- computer science, engineering and music cognition. Three students are
- admitted each year with full tuition scholarship and stipendiary
- support. Faculty includes Jon Appleton (Director), Larry Polansky,
- Kathryn Alexander, Jamshed Bharucha (Psychology) and Michael Sturge
- (Physics). Seminars include (1) Influence of technology on the roles
- of musicians and musical institutions in the 20th century, (2) survey
- and analysis of the repertoire of electro-acoustic music, (3) analysis
- of musical systems, (4) analysis, synthesis and perception of timbre
- and (5) composition of computer music. Facilities include most
- commonly used digital music systems (Synclavier, Digidesign, NeXT,
- MIDI, etc.). Admission based on bachelor's degree in one of the
- following: music, physics, computer science or engineering. Ability to
- play a musical instrument is expected. Questions regarding the program
