  10. I've been following the QT Windows / Video for Windows announcements
  11. from the perspective of a Macintosh user who may want to port some
  12. things to Windows.

  14. One message posted here recently, contained a product announcement for a
  15. CD-ROM which is apparently cross-platform IBM/Mac and uses QT.  Yet the
  16. CD contains "two exact copies of each of the movies, one in the
  17. Macintosh QT format and the other in the Windows QT format..."  
  18.  
  19. The implication here is that QT Windows is not immediately compatible
  20. with QT Macintosh.  Therefore, you have to have two copies of each
  21. movie, or convert the movies manually, rather than running the same
  22. files without fussing?  Is there a good reason why this would
  23. necessarily be the case?

  25. According to an article in December's PC World, Video for Windows has
  26. the capacity to convert QT Macintosh movies to its own file format.  If
  27. Apple's QT Windows requires you to do the same, it seems to me they've
  28. lost one of their possible advantages.

  30. Both packages are supposed to be shipping this month (Apple's is
  31. supposedly to be out today, 11/23).  If anyone does some comparison, I'd
  32. be interested in the results.  I'd also be interested to hear from any
  33. Mac users who are trying to take things across to Windows.
