- This is with regard to multimedia database management systems.
- I intend to develop a multiple transactional store for the storage
- of multimedia objects. Basically I would be extending an existing
- object-oriented DBMS to incorporate multimedia features. The existing system
- does not have a storage manager of its own, it utilises the storage
- manager of a relational DBMS (ingres). Infact the system has been
- interfaced to the Unix file system and EXODUS storage manager. Now my
- objective is to have decomposed multimedia object handling utilising
- the interfaces to the storage managers. The idea is to decompose the
- multimedia object into components such as image, text and store these
- components in storages better suited to them. This kind of storage
- reduces redundancies which is crucial in multimedia information
- mangement
-
- My question is has this kind of decomposed multimedia object handling
- been done before, if so could you please give any references in the
- literature . I would appreciate if you could give me any suggestions
- or ideas in this regard.
-
- thanks in advance
