- Forgot to answer your last question: yes, 24-bit colour images certainly
- can take up lots of space. That's why image compression services are such
- an important part of QuickTime.

- I grabbed a sequence of still images at 384*288 resolution from my Spigot,
- and the PICT files were around 300K each! By using JPEG compression, I was
- able to get these down to 20K or less, with only minor loss of image quality.

- JPEG can't be decompressed fast enough to play back a movie, though (unless
- you've got some hardware help or a really fast CPU). There are other
- compression algorithms provided with QuickTime that are better suited to
- compression of movies.
