- Macweek 11/02 ad an article describing a 30-minute public television
- show (station KCET) that was recorded and edited entirely using
- a quicktime accelerator board and Adobe Premiere.
-
- Is this is the first broadcast use of compressed digital video?
- The article says that 30 minutes of 24bit 640x480 frames fit onto
- 2 2-gigabyte drives using a compression ratio of 8:1 (I calculated
- something like 12:1 using these same figures).
-
- The show is for broadcast this month and supposedly will be
- broadcast directly from the hard disk. Sounds foolish-
- what if the machine crashes. On the other hand, it sounds like
- they spent all their money on a mac and hard drives rather than on
- Betacam VTRs, so they may not have a choice.
