  11. Macweek 11/02 ad an article describing a 30-minute public television 
  12. show (station KCET) that was recorded and edited entirely using     
  13. a quicktime accelerator board and Adobe Premiere.

  15. Is this is the first broadcast use of compressed digital video?
  16. The article says that 30 minutes of 24bit 640x480 frames fit onto
  17. 2 2-gigabyte drives using a compression ratio of 8:1 (I calculated
  18. something like 12:1 using these same figures).

  20. The show is for broadcast this month and supposedly will be 
  21. broadcast directly from the hard disk.  Sounds foolish- 
  22. what if the machine crashes.  On the other hand, it sounds like
  23. they spent all their money on a mac and hard drives rather than on
  24. Betacam VTRs, so they may not have a choice.
