- First, that's SBP+, not SPP+.
-
- Second, as James Hague points out in a response, you should
- consider using SBP+ as your final compiler in your development
- cycle. This means that you should be a serious developer of
- commercial and professional apps, or you should be someone
- for whom the $249 or so doesn't bite too deeply (not many of us in
- the latter category; for that matter, how many of us in the former?).
- Since we don't know which "shoes" you wear, there's not much
- more to be said in this vein.
-
- The interface is not what you're use to with the Turbo IDE.
- But there are some advantages, namely, the projects orientation
- to development. BC++, the Think compilers for the Mac, and others
- have a similar orientation to project development which is lacking
- in TP/BP. It is not essential, but for the professional
- programmer/team, it might become so.
-
- Optimizations: there's a lot of misplaced hunger for this.
- How really vital is it to your app? Sure, everyone wants
- their particular app to be rocket-88 fast, but isn't there
- a little too much focus on speed versus many other more
- important issues -- like good program design and adherence
- to standards. Spend more time developing a consistent
- interface and thorough on-line help, and less on speed
- optimizations. NASCAR stock cars sure do go fast,
- but the climate controls are a bit crude.
-
- Next, if you use TV/OWL you cannot abandon TP/BP. Full stop.
-
- If you've got the money, buy it -- it will help the economy
- out, and help the SB people will make ends meet.
- That's one way to look at it.
