  11. In accordance with an official agreement with
  12. the International Standards Organization, Unicomp
  13. is now able to distribute electronic versions of
  14. the Fortran 90 standard: "ISO/IEC 1539 : 1991,
  15. Information technology--Programming languages--Fortran".

  17. The money received from this effort will go partly to
  18. fund ISO activities and partly to recover the costs
  19. incurred by Unicomp in preparing and typesetting the
  20. standard document.  The prices are set by ISO.
  21.  
  22. The document can be obtained in three versions:
  23.  
  24. 1.  An ascii version suitable for viewing on a
  25.     computer terminal using any kind of editor.
  26.     Cost: USD 125.
  27.  
  28. 2.  A PostScript version with a license allowing
  29.     the purchaser to print n paper copies.
  30.     Cost: USD 125 + 10n.
  31.  
  32. 3.  Complete source in ditroff with macros and
  33.     software to extract and create the annexes.
  34.     The source constitutes a fairly high level
  35.     marked up document; for example, each program
  36.     beginning and ending is marked and there
  37.     are few low-level typographic commands such
  38.     as size and font changes.  Cost USD 1000.

  40. I am quite enthused especially about version (2).
  41. If you want to have 10 copies for your organization,
  42. and it costs $10 to make a printed copy, then the
  43. cost to make the 10 copies would be $125 + $200,
  44. or just $32.50 per copy, which is a substantial
  45. savings over purchasing paper copies.

  47. Versions (1) and (3) will be accompanied by a
  48. license restricting use to one CPU and prohibiting
  49. copying, except for backup purposes, etc.  The
  50. version (2) license will prohibit distributing
  51. any of the printed copies outside of the purchasing
  52. organization.

  54. If you have special requirements, such as wanting
  55. to distribute a copy with each version of your compiler
  56. or using the source as a part of your documentation,
  57. we can make special arrangements, subject to the
  58. approval of the ISO.  Please advise me of your
  59. requirements and we can work up a proposal together.

  61. ISO and Unicomp think this will provide the often
  62. requested access to the standard in electronic form.
  63. This is the first time this is being tried, so we hope
  64. that organizations will be careful to observe the rules
  65. and encourage the continued availability of this
  66. and other standards in electronic form.

  68. Payment can be made by Visa or MasterCard, or with
  69. a check on a US Bank in US funds.  We will accept
  70. a purchase order only if the amount is $500 or more.
