  15. Where I work, we ask people to write a short program that breaks a line
  16. into words.  Before they start, we have them estimate how long it will
  17. take them.  When they finish, we check the program for basic programming
  18. skills.  (They do it on paper, and very few get it right.)  We also see
  19. how they react to comments as we go over the program.  We try to avoid
  20. hiring people who will be hard to work with.
