- I have heard from the undergrad students here at the U of Md that the
- MIS track is the hardest in the entire business school. Mostly because
- you have to take computer science classes and statistics classes that
- the other business majors don't have to take. That is just UMd of course.
- Or are you asking about careers in MIS being demanding? I'm sure you
- could find demanding jobs and nondemanding jobs in any field.
-
- I feel MIS is a great field to get into now. We're just starting the
- "Information Age," and every company, govt, and household will need to
- manage information quicker, more compactly, with greater breadth and depth,
- social impacts, etc. There a million subfields to study in MIS.
-
- I know of no prejudice for or against minorities or women within the MIS
- field other than that attributed to background noise (field-independent
- prejudice in other words).
-
- However, if you don't like it, then it's not a good choice to make. If
- you think you'll be truly happy in life because it's a little easier to
- get a job or you'll make a few thousand more than in some other field,
- that could be one of the biggest mistakes you'll ever make. Enjoy the
- work, the rest will follow.
-
- Good luck,
- +Rick
