- Subject: HELP: Information needed on open version of SGL
- Summary: Information needed on Silicon Graphics Library (open version) for Sun

- BACKGROUND: The Joint European Torus is a major nuclear fusion research project
- investigating the feasability of a toroidal, magnetically confinement plasma as
- a future energy source. One of the key elemenents in the control of this plasma
- is the prediction of the plasma boundary and magnetic field lines confining the
- plasma. We currently have a predictive tool which uses the SGL to visualise the
- coil currents, plasma boundary and magnetic field lines.
-
- PROBLEM: Our plan was to run the tool as a stand alone product on an R4000 IRIS
- Indigo XS connected to the main Sun network via an ethernet to communicate some
- simple information between the two systems. What we would like, is to integrate
- the product properly into the control system, but for this we would need to run
- the code on a Sun machine.
-
- QUESTION: We have heard rumours that SGL has been released as an open product.
- If this is correct is is avbailable yet or in the near future for the Sun? and
- if it is what other products are we likely to need (ie graphics cards etc.) to
- get a Sparc 10 or some other Sun machine to run our predictive code?
-
- HELP:
-
- 1) Does anyone know if SGL will be available for the Sun
-
- 2) Does anyone know who to contact for further information
-
- 3) Does anyone have any experience of running SGL on a Sun
-
-
- If you can answer or help with any of this please Email me src@jet.uk, I
- would rather be swamped with information even if its only hints of where
- to go to find out more information. I'll be happy to pass on anything I
- find out if anyone else is interested, as long as I have something to pass
- on.
