- We examine the notion that complex, natural appearing shapes are most
- easily defined via their inner structure (`skeleton'). We will review
- the implicit methods developed at PARC for `fleshing' the skeleton into
- a smooth, macroscopic surface; these include various implicit blending
- and surface tiling techniques.
-
- An interesting variation on these methods involves the `exo-skeleton',
- in which the parametrically defined skeleton extends beyond the
- implicitly defined surface.
-
- We will also consider surface detail, its relation with the skeleton,
- and the need for and implementation aspects of multi-resolution surface
- representation.
-
- The software environment for this work will be outlined, and the talk
- will include some thoughts concerning the importance and significance
- of shape design.
-
-
- Bay Area ACM/SIGGRAPH meetings have always been open to the public, no
- admission charge.
-
-
- This is the last meeting of Bay Area ACM/SIGGRAPH. Since there are no
- candidates for president, no election can be held, and without
- officers, no meetings can be held. Likewise there will be no more
- issues of Chroma. For further information on the no longer future of
- Bay Area ACM/SIGGRAPH, contact Lou Katz or Julian Gomez.
