- My Supra has been on continiously for 5 months without problem.
- I've noticed only one power supply problem: it has no reserve to
- allow you to "ride through" brief (few ms) power dropouts. My Mac II
- can tolerate such power droputs, but Supra cannot. It has happened
- 2-3 times in 5 months: afterwards, the modem needs to be power cycled
- which also means that the fax software must reinitialize it.
-
- My Supra has had no trouble at all with data connections. However,
- its tiny internal speaker died (and I don't care enough to fix it).
- Day-in, day-out this modem is on, mostly to receive faxes. For the
- most part there are no problems with these either. Out of 100 or
- so different fax machines contacted, less than 5% had the following
- problem: failure to negotiate the faxdata rate. For these few, I solve
- the problem by limiting the send/receive fax speed to 4800 in the
- Chooser (FaxPrint setup). A nuisance, but it works for those few
- machines which had trouble and which I seldom contact. Anyway, since
- my fax software uses "class 1" (not 2) to talk to the faxmodem,
- I suppose that the problem is with the software, not modem.
-
- Out of many hundreds of fax sessions, two ended up with my fax
- software not being able to hang up properly after transmission.
-
- Data connections work just great -- with compression, I'm getting
- Zmodem transfers of some 3700 cps (text) and 1640 cps (pre-compacted
- binaries). No dropped connections, no failure to negotiate, no errors,
- no trouble at all. That's my experience.
-
- Overal assessment: works just fine for attended operation, only a few
- problems with unattended operation (in 5 months of experience). Worth
- the money.
