- We have a few GVC 9600 baud modems, and they seem to have a problem
- answering the phone. On certain phone lines, they will only answer about 30%
- of the time, on other lines they will never answer, and on a few lines, they
- almost always answer. (Whatever line it is on, the LED always blinks when it
- rings, so *something* in the modem is aware the phone is ringing).
-
- This problem seems to be generic to all the GVCs we have. If a particular
- GVC doesn't like a particular phone line, all the other GVCs seem to have
- problems with that same line.
-
- Some other brand modems tested on the same lines (Hayes and Telebit for
- instance) always answer and never seem to have a problem.
-
- Has anyone else seen this problem with GVCs? Does anyone have any idea what
- I could look at to find out what the problem might be?
-
- At the moment, we simply experiment until we find a phone line the modem
- likes, and leave it there...
