  25. Ok, here's the deal as I see it.

  27. I have two Supras.

  29. They work >OK<.  Not great, but ok.

  31. I have discovered that the following is true for them:
  32.  
  33. 1)    You cannot trust the default settings.  You will have to play
  34.     with them to get acceptable performance.  Once you find a set that
  35.     works for you, however, you will be ok.

  37. 2)    YOU MUST RESET THE MODEM WITH "ATZ" between calls.  DO IT.  This is
  38.     particularly important for BBS dial-in use.  If you don't, it will
  39.     eventually go schitzoid and start doing strange things -- like not
  40.     answering calls properly.  This is true EVEN if you use DTR hard 
  41.     reset mode!  Whatever state it is keeping, though, appears to be
  42.     cleared with an "ATZ".  Don't ask me why.  I don't know.  It just IS.

  44. The new ROMs are a definite improvement, but make (2) above even MORE
  45. important.  The mean time to schitzoid behavior decreases with the new
  46. firmware if you don't do this.

  48. Now for Unix systems this is a particular problem, as there isn't a good way
  49. (other than TROLL, which I publish) to handle this for dial-in modems.
  50. Yuck.

  52. For dial-OUT use, as in calling BBS systems and the like, you should be
  53. fine.
