- Ok, here's the deal as I see it.
-
- I have two Supras.
-
- They work >OK<. Not great, but ok.
-
- I have discovered that the following is true for them:
-
- 1) You cannot trust the default settings. You will have to play
- with them to get acceptable performance. Once you find a set that
- works for you, however, you will be ok.
-
- 2) YOU MUST RESET THE MODEM WITH "ATZ" between calls. DO IT. This is
- particularly important for BBS dial-in use. If you don't, it will
- eventually go schitzoid and start doing strange things -- like not
- answering calls properly. This is true EVEN if you use DTR hard
- reset mode! Whatever state it is keeping, though, appears to be
- cleared with an "ATZ". Don't ask me why. I don't know. It just IS.
-
- The new ROMs are a definite improvement, but make (2) above even MORE
- important. The mean time to schitzoid behavior decreases with the new
- firmware if you don't do this.
-
- Now for Unix systems this is a particular problem, as there isn't a good way
- (other than TROLL, which I publish) to handle this for dial-in modems.
- Yuck.
-
- For dial-OUT use, as in calling BBS systems and the like, you should be
- fine.
