- I dug up the press release that announced our 28.8 technology. As is
- indicated below, as of the September CCITT meeting (the last one) we are
- the only company that has been able to take the technology this far. The
- product will be available when the standard is approved.
-
- Also, if there is any interest, I can get the press release for our new
- line of consumer grade modems. These are V.32, V32bis Fax modems that
- are aimed at the low cost market. These modems utilize a new Optical phone
- Line interface (OLI), which provides superior performance over traditional
- transformer based DAAs. These new modems come with a lifetime warranty.

- Here is the release, any typos are mine:

- FOR RELEASE: MONDAY, NOVEMBER 16,1992
- LAS VEGAS, NEV. -- AT&T Paradyne continued its modem technology
- leadership by announcing today it has developed a modem that achieves the
- world's fastest tranmission speeds of 28,800 bps over standard telephone
- lines.
- Designed by AT&T Paradyne's development teams in Largo and at AT&T
- Bell Laboratories, this breakthrough will allow customers to plan their
- future network applications based on efficiency and cost-saving benefits
- of the newest speed. The new speed is twice as fast as the current 14,400
- bps transmission rates.
- The company is the first to provide 28,800 bps modem test results to
- the CCITT V.fast standards committee. The only other 28,800 bps test
- results were achieved by companies using simulated modem modulations,
- rather than with actual modems. Expected availability of the new products
- is set for the second half of 1993.
- "We're excited about the new modulation scheme," said AT&T Paradyne's
- Vice President and General Manager of Advanced Dial Technologies, Jean-
- Claude Vrignaud. "It's also important to note that we are providing test
- data to the CCITT for 28,800 bps using an actual product.
- AT&T Paradyne also announced a migration plan for its COMSPHERE
- 3800 modem customers. The plan will allow customer to upgrade their
- existion modems to the new V.fast standard once it is approved by the
- CCITT. The new V.fast upgrades will cost $350.
- Headquartered in Largo, AT&T Paradyne develops, manufactures and
- markets global data communications products. The AT&T subsidiary also
- licenses high-bandwidth transmission transceiver technologies to worldwide
- telecommunications suppliers.
- For marketing and sales information please call 1-800-484-3333.
- COMSPHERE is a trademark of AT&T.
