-
- Hi there. Just wanted to relate some more technical support nightmares for
- those of you contemplating a Gupta purchase.
-
- Please note these opinions are my own, and are based on my experience with
- Gupta Technologies, not on a wide survey or anything of the kind.
-
- Disclaimer aside, I called these guys about a problem with the text search
- in their environment, and about a GP fault caused by SQLWIN.EXE when you
- attempt to use a non-existant file. The search function will not locate ANY
- KEYWORD in the text of the file, we are told, unless it is in a comment. So
- if you are looking for an If or Return statement, forget it, it won't work.
- Basically they told us to live with it. Same with the GP fault, we should
- check to see if the file exists...
-
- Well I've written programs that have crashed when a file is not there, but a
- GP fault from the development environment? I call that a bug.
-
- Several weeks ago a Gupta person (obviously scanning the net, ARE YOU OUT
- THERE?) contacted me by email to address our "issues". He said he'd have a
- Customer Service representative call me. Never happened, nor have I heard
- from him again. Probably just because I stopped posting.
-
- Bottom line is we paid thousands of dollars for Hot Line support, and all we
- got was the "Chill Mill", as we like to call it. We have opened and closed
- 11 "Logs" and have received 2 maintenance releases and 9 "live with it"
- responses. Only one of the 2 maintenance releases actually fixed OUR bug.
-
- Another bug involves a function that is clearly supposed to tell you whether
- a window handle is NULL or not, but always returns FALSE. This one is still
- open, but the support guy said that the response would probably be "This is
- the way the function is designed." I said "You mean it is designed to give
- a wrong answer?" He said he would "submit the report".
-
- What say you now Gupta?
