- I'd like to let you folks in on a little secret, for providing seemless access
- to USENET News on a PC-Based BBS system PCBoard is a pretty good
- choice.
-
- I know that I'll receive a million flames from Waffle sysops for saying this,
- but the plain fact is Waffle isn't a very attractive system. I can only speak
- from the USER perspective, however the Waffle systems I've been on tend
- to be very bland, and difficult to use. That could be the fault of the sysop,
- but thats what I know.
-
- PCBoard, on the other hand (when used in conjunction with uuPCB) lets
- you run a SOLID BBS system - complete with great ANSI screens, good
- user security options, great file areas, etc... I am sure that all of this
- can be accomplished with a Waffle system, but that fact is that with
- respect to these "standard" PC-based BBS functions, Waffle is lacking.
-
- So don't shoot down the folks (like me) who have chosen to run a PC
- based system, using PCboard. It is a solid package with great customer
- support that is flexible enough to do ANYTHING that CAN be done on
- a PC-based system. And the fact is, a good amount of my caller base
- (which is nearing 400 - for a free system, that aint too bad!) use Amigas,
- Mac's, Atari's, and Unix boxes. I doubt they THEY believe that the PC
- is the only computer system in existence -- Hell, I'm impressed with
- features offered by ALL of these great platforms. I chose PC's because
- I can do more for what I need to, at a very good price.
-
- If anything, I think its GREAT that guys like me can offer callers access
- to the USENET from a PC-based system in such a seemless manner.
- Doesn't it benifit us all when connectivity to this network so easily
- spans different platforms.
-
- The more the merrier, I say!
-
- Cheers,
- Howie
