  25. JOB SUMMARY

  27. The Lecturers will provide academic support in the areas of Computer
  28. Graphics and Artificial Intelligence under the general direction of the
  29. Head of Department.
  30.  
  31. The Department of Computer Science is a large multi-campus department with
  32. an enrolment of approximately 650 equivalent full time students in its
  33. courses and a staff establishment of approximately 55.

  36. The following courses are offered by the Department:
  37.     .  Bachelor of  Applied Science (Computer Science).
  38.     .  Bachelor of Applied Science Honours (Computer Science).
  39.     .  Graduate Diploma  in Computing Studies.
  40.     .  Graduate Diploma in Knowledge Based Systems.
  41.     .  Post Graduate Certificate in Software Engineering.
  42.     .  Bachelor of Engineering/Bachelor of Applied Science in Information
  43. Systems.
  44.     .  Master of Applied Science (by Coursework) in Information Technology.
  45.     .  Master of Applied Science and PhD (by Research).
  46.     .  The Department also offers a range of service subjects to other
  47. departments.

  49. In addition to the above programs, the Department has a heavy involvement
  50. in research and development principally in the areas of database systems,
  51. computer graphics, artificial intelligence and software engineering.
  52.  
  53. The teaching programs of the Department cover the areas of programming
  54. languages and methodology, computer architecture, systems analysis and
  55. design, theory of computation, database systems, computer graphics,
  56. artificial intelligence, software engineering, formal methods, data
  57. communications and networks, operating systems, systems programming and
  58. compiler design.

  60. The Department operates two multi-processor Encore Multimax computer
  61. systems (both due for repacement in 1993), a Sun 4 mini-computer and a
  62. VAXll/750 all running UNIX.  A wide range of computer laboratories and
  63. networked workstations are available for teaching and research.  Students
  64. also make use of the RMIT Advanced Computer Graphics Centre laboratories
  65. and the University's central mainframes and super-computer facilities.

  73. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
  74.  
  75. The applicant should have a higher degree in Computer Science (preferably a
  76. PhD) or a degree plus significant industrial experience in the appropriate
  77. area.  Evidence of quality tertiary teaching and experience in an academic
  78. environment would be an advantage.

  83. The successful applicant will be responsible to the Head of Department for:
  84.  
  85. 3.1    Carrying out teaching, assessment and other academic functions
  86. primarily in 
  87.     the area of Computer Graphics/Artificial Intelligence but also in other
  88. areas 
  89.     from the list above;
  90.  
  91. 3.2    Supervising projects and thesis, carrying out  research;
  92.  
  93. 3.3    Assisting with administrative functions of the Department and the
  94. University;  and
  95.  
  96. 3.4    Performing other appropriate duties as required by Head of Department.

  100.     be required to teach at the RMIT Bundoora campus.
