  13. As Randy Suess pointed out, he doesn't currently have the CLOUT/UofC root
  14. password, and a simple reboot wouldn't clear up the problem.  The other holder
  15. of the access keys, Russell Rezaian, has been notified and will be down there
  16. sometime today to clean up the machine.  With an outage of less than a day,
  17. no mail should be dropped, although some may be rejected if there's no spool
  18. space.

  20. Once the machine has recovered, we'll postmortem to figure out what happened;
  21. but I can pretty well promise that somebody has tried to either FTP or mail
  22. a huge source or something similar.  This is turning out to be an ongoing
  23. problem, and while we prefer to administer without artificial limitations,
  24. if this continues we're going to have to develop some sort of "throttle".

  26. Please, folks--this is a volunteer effort with donated equipment, and our
  27. spool space *is* finite.  If you wish to send a multi-megabyte love letter
  28. or somesuch, spread it out over a few days...

  32. As for the notification names and numbers on the CLOUT machine itself, this
  33. should be there.  I'm sure it will be a topic at the next Adminstrators'
  34. meeting.
