- Sea Change Corporation is pleased to announce Canadian availability of the
- Net Hopper IP router from Rockwell International's CMC Network Products unit.
-
- The Net Hopper is a low-cost dial-up router for TCP/IP networks,
- and sets new standards for cost-effectiveness and ease of use:
-
- + lowest cost dial-up IP router on the market
- $2495 Cdn list price
- + 5 minutes to install and configure
- + tri-media auto-sensing Ethernet connection
- (AUI/10-BaseT/Thin-net)
- + built-in Rockwell V.32/V.42bis modem for effective
- throughput up to 56Kbps
- + IP routing software includes PPP protocol and MIB II support
- through integrated SNMP agent
- + 1 year warranty
-
-
- The Net Hopper routes IP traffic to and from remote sites using
- standard telephone lines. Connections are established on a demand basis,
- so expensive leased lines can be eliminated. To use Net Hopper, all that
- is required is an Ethernet network with TCP/IP and a telephone line.
-
- TCP/IP has become the most popular industry-standard network
- protocol, expanding beyond government and technical applications into the
- commercial world. With Net Hopper, TCP/IP LAN's in remote offices can be
- connected together to form an enterprise-wide private Internet, providing
- users with e-mail, file transfer, and database access.
-
- The Net Hopper also offers an ideal solution for gaining access to
- the Internet, a worldwide IP network that currently has more than 1 million
- nodes and several million users.
-
- Although dial-up IP routers have been commercially available for
- a year or so, current-generation products are expensive and suffer from
- cumbersome installation and configuration procedures. Because current
- products require external modems, they are subject to incompatibility problems
- with modems from different manufacturers.
-
- The Net Hopper is engineered with simplicity as a primary goal.
- Superior modem technology from Rockwell International is built-in, so there
- is no modem configuration to be dealt with. "Net Hopper is extremely easy to
- use - easier than setting up a stereo system" said Subhash Bal, director of
- product management for CMC Network Products. Net Hopper takes only a few
- minutes to configure and doesn't need to be touched again.
-
- The Net Hopper will be available in December and comes in two
- configurations:
-
- + the Net Hopper model NH-1 with one modem connection and one Ethernet
- connection, priced at Cdn $2,495
-
- + the Net Hopper model NH-3 with three integrated modems and one
- Ethernet interface, priced at Cdn $4,375
-
- Rockwell International's CMC Network Products unit is a leading
- supplier of high-performance, standards-based local and wide-are networking
- hardware and software. CMC is located in Santa Barbara, California.
-
- Sea Change Corporation develops and markets storage and networking
- products for UNIX-based systems, and provides systems integration services
- using TCP/IP networking technologies. Sea Change is located in Mississauga,
- Ontario.
