  13. I also have gone through angst on what to do, if anything, with the
  14. homeless people.  I agree with one posting about helping out with
  15. organizations that help the homeless, and I have done so.  Despite this,
  16. though, I still have felt the need for more of a personal response to
  17. these people.

  19. I too have heard the stories of con artists, people unwilling to work
  20. despite their signs, not "enabling" this behavior, etc...  Finally, I
  21. decided that
  22. I would never be able to get inside any of these peoples head well enough
  23. to judge their situation, and even if I did, who was I judge?
  24.  
  25. As a result, I followed my heart (and my gut) and when it's felt right
  26. I reached out to these individuals personally.  Sometimes a little money,
  27. sometimes with some food I may have handy.  Regardless of their situation,
  28. I've been fortunate to have my needs taken care of and sharing some of that
  29. feels right.

  31. Originally, I was scared and intimidated that approaching these people
  32. would be stange, risky or actually harmful.  Though it sometimes felt like
  33. a risk, somehow it's been safe to approach the people I have approached.
  34. In addition to the material exchange, I can't help but feel that just the
  35. act of recognition and simple human respect on my part, contributes
  36. something positive.

  38. This has helped me find a personal way to contribute, as well as contributing
  39. through other groups.
