  20. The fallacy here is that you are taking the US retail (which already
  21. includes profit margin etc) and adding yet another another 1/3 gross
  22. margin.

  24. A better bet would be to assume local margin is about comparable to
  25. the US:

  29.     Aust theoretical RRP (ex tax)    6999
  30.     Actual rrp               ~9500 ex, or ~11,400 tax paid.

  35. Now the most expensive 486DX66 I have seen in the Green Guide is
  36. around $5k tax paid, or well under half the cost of the Classic.  How
  37. can they possibly claim these things are price competitive?  Add
  38. Solaris (for < $1k) and you are running the _same_ software, and still
  39. about half the price!

  41. All of which indicates that the local prices on these units are
  42. probably dicsountable, unlike the U.S.

  44. As an aside, I was very, very impressed with the architecture of the
  45. SS2000.  Comes with 256Mb of RAM, minimum! Not cheap, but.
