- Hi all,
-
- I'd like to propose the creation of a new group, to be titled aus.law
- or something similar. There doesn't appear to currently be a forum for
- discussions of the nature I propose here.
-
- I suggest, as the name describes, that it be a forum for discussion of things
- legal. The law, what we like, don't like, a place to talk out theories.
-
- A place to seek legal opinion (as opposed to 'advice', which could be
- dangerous in a newsgroup context) from lawyers, wanna-be lawyers (students
- like me!) and all the rest of us who like standing on soapboxes.
-
- Things I think might come up include discussions on the criminal justice
- system (Do our current reforms work?), criminal justice with respect to
- racial minorities, company law - intellectual property will obviously be
- of interest to hundreds of software-head netters.
-
- Commentary on recent decision, commentry on matters currently before courts,
- (with obvious recognition of our contempt laws which restrict such discussion
- to facts and not opinions - we don't want any budding Derryn Hinches to pop up!)
- appointments of Judges, etc
-
- Obviously, as a result of the close ties between politics and the law,
- some politics will come into the group.
-
- Both Federal and State legal issues will be welcome, including discussion
- of comparisons of State laws and their differences.
-
- My leaning is towards laws criminal, and motor traffic, obviously all law
- will be open for discussion, I beg your pardon if I imply otherwise.
-
- Replies please by way of personal mail with subject "aus.law" to me,
- or for discussion in aus.news
-
- thanx
