- I am posting this now so that those about to disappear for their summer
- vacation won't miss out when "PAX - Public Access Unix" in Adelaide,
- South Australia, comes on line in 2nd or 3rd week of December. The goal
- of this system is to provide access to the joys(!) of unix, email, and
- usenet for those who can't normally afford it, can't convince anyone to
- give it to them, or are about to loose it when they graduate or go home
- for vacation, or change jobs or locations.
-
- The phone number will be 235-9010 with 4 lines up to V32bis.
-
- The system offers:
-
- - email and a full news feed (in the Australian sense of the word full)
- - source archives on a 6 CDROM multichanger and more on hard disk
- - full Unix shell access for all users (SunOS 4.1.2 on a Sparcstation 1)
- - as many shells, mail & news readers, compilers, etc. as you care to ask for
- - anonymous & privacy enhanced email & posting
- - access for a flat monthly fee with no connection time charges or limits
- - online registration by credit card
- - slip or ppp connections can be arranged
-
- Unfortunately it doesn't offer tcpip access to AARNet (yet) due to the high
- cost of this option, but the usual archie-by-mail and ftp-by-mail options
- available to any email user are present.
-
- It is not available quite yet but be patient and watch this space.
