- Well, something did happen. In Texas it would be called Assault with a
- Deadly Weapon. I'm familar with this because it is a "lesser included
- crime" in attempted murder, which is a lesser included crime in murder,
- which is a lesser included crime in capitol murder.
-
- I would predict that sometime a wind blown leaf, or perhaps a neighbors
- cat, or a similar background noise like a certain car door closing will
- scare you substantially.
-
- In my own case, I went to the carport door, opened it, and called the cat.
- Guess what! He came. It terrified me, since my daughter and I were gunshot
- 8 weeks ago today, and her boyfriend had just appeared from the same
- direction at that same door and started shooting.
-
- I'm not generally terrified or unable to go about life,
- except that anytime I am idle, such as riding the bus, I replay the call
- to 911.
-
- Life is indeed fragile, and I don't know why I'm here. I don't know why
- my daughter is gone. But even before the shooting it was possible for us
- to be killed in a car wreck on the way home, and I pretty much go about
- life even with that possibility in the background.
-
- I guess I think it's important to be real, and acknowledge to yourself
- that you are frightened. And when a close friend asks how you are,
- tell 'em! Just in a simple way, like "I'm still frightened some."
- I've got a reputation now, when anyone asks how I am, I say "I feel like
- I've been gunshot!" Which of course is true, but doesn't tell anything,
- and let's people know I'm not gonna fall apart at the first accidental
- mention. They can then pursue that or not, as they feel like it.
