- Lots of people think tans are desirable. That's why so many
- tanning salons operate over the winter months to keep the
- tanaholics in shape (and I have never been impressed with fake
- and bake tans, anyway, so I think this is pretty much silly).

- The modeling and fashion industry is very fickle. Brit Hammer,
- who is one of the most successful petite models I know of, is
- only 5'6-1/2" tall and was photographed exclusively for her face
- in the Clinique ads; Clinique has since replaced her with someone
- who I personally think looks hostile (at least in the pictures
- I've seen) as opposed to approachable (Brit). I don't have the
- name of the new Clinique model, yet. Estee Lauder dumped Willow
- Bay, their former signature model, when they signed Paulina. So I
- don't know how kind the industry will be to Christy in the years
- to come. Some models seem to have enormous, timeless appeal (one
- thinks of, say, Christie Brinkley, Lauren Hutton, and of course,
- Lancome's ageless Isabella Rosellini). A classic beauty such as
- Paulina will also have enduring appeal, I think.
-
- >probably never have sagging skin). Victor, you'll probably know, but
- >the models who look tanned in photographs, is that usually makeup?
-
- It could be bronzer. Sometimes I've had to have makeup people
- put it on to cut down the pale, ivory whiteness of some models.
- The model I was photographing last night (who was drawing
- admiring stares from the hotel staff and guests) is very pale,
- and we did nothing to make her look less so, especially since she
- was wearing dark velvet evening outfits and a black sequinned
- one. The contrast against her porcelain skin was just amazing.

- I think her agency has told her NOT to get tanned. Good thing.

-
- I agree. Don't fake and bake -- your skin will become leathery.
- And *who* wants to caress leathery skin on a human being?
-
- Not me, that's for sure. The softer and smoother, the better!
