  13. It is unfortunate, to say the least that the paranoia surrounding "sexual
  14. harassment" has digressed to it's current state.  Having been accused of
  15. sexual harassment, for what I thought was harmless flirting (I asked a girl
  16. to kiss me,) I know the lengths that people will go to sequester their
  17. sexuality from the rest of the world.  I have a real problem with accusing
  18. people of sexual harassment for simply making 1st person sexual comments.
  19. Had the aformentioned case called the security of the said woman's
  20. employment status, student status or most importantly her personal
  21. security, I could see reason for an investigation.  However, this
  22. witch-hunt mentality that has surrounded much of these cases often
  23. supercedes mere investigation.  It also serves to perpetuate the attitude
  24. (an attitude which I have seen pervade most of American culture,) that
  25. sexuality is a bad thing; and that discussion of sex is even more evil.
  26. Talking about sex, even in the most candid of terms is NOT rape.  However,
  27. using the threat of loosing one's job or security if sexual demands are not
  28. met is a different story, and the form of "sexual harassment" should be
  29. more aptly named "sexual extortion."
