- Anyone else want to debunk the myth of beautiful = dumb? I'm now
- quite tired of being the only person in this group who speaks out
- along these lines. Anyone out there reading this group who works
- with models on a regular basis care to comment, hmmm?

- Well, I don't think the equation beautiful = dumb is an iron law, but in
- general, I've found that humans tend to be average overall, and if that
- means you are very smart, another aspect of you (ie. looks) tends to suffer.
- That is merely a casual observation, and does not go into the underlying
- reasons as to why this is so...perhaps it's because those with looks tend
- to rely on them more than brains, and consequently, take care of themselves
- better, dress better, and comport themselves with a more alluring aura.
- Whatever, it is, I can say that here at Harvard, with few exceptions, the
- women here tend to be less attractive than say Boston College across the
- river. Similarly, the women in Boston College tend to be less intelligent
- in casual conversation, seem less involved with general current events,
- and have less well developed opinions of some key philosophical issues.
- Note, this is not technical knowledge such as being able to program an
- operating system, or finding the rate-limiting step in some organic chemistry
- reaction, or solving a triple integral equation, or whatever. Now of
- course, there are exceptions...perhaps Cindy Crawford is one of the few
- people who was smart enough to get into NorthWestern on merit alone (was
- Brooke Shields smart enough to get into Princeton w/o her name???), happens
- to have a one-in-a-million model body, and comports herself well in social
- sitautions, but she is RARE RARE RARE. At least around here, women can be
- crudely subdivided into the jocks/socialites, the nerds, and the weirdoes,
- with the first usually attractive and good at social situations but not
- too bright (relatively speaking), the second damn smart but not too attractive
- (again relatively speaking), and then, the third either not attractive AND
- weird (ie. HRSFA Science fiction members) or the occasional quite attractive
- BUT weird (I've met several of those already). Again, I use this schema
- to try to make some observations of the observed phenomena, so please don't
- bother me with comments like, "But Claudia Schiffer is a babe *schwing* and
- she has a PhD in aeronautical engineering". Other comments eagerly welcome :)
