- There are two trains of thought here. Some of the guys put lots of money into
- the paint because they want to be "loud" visually about what they have under
- the hood.
-
- My philosophy (sledhead philosophy, sounds like a great subject for study)
- is that keeping it simply adds an element of surprise and gives me a chance
- to deflate a few egos. My machine has nothing fancy on the exterior except
- for a few decalls on the hood. The typical scenario is that I am sitting
- at a trail stop and somebody pulls up on a WildCat or Indy 650. They see
- the stock '84 Indy 600 colors and ask "Want to race". I make a comment
- about them riding newer machines than mine but that what the heck its all
- in fun. Admittedly when I start up the 707 the SLP pipes raise some
- eye brows and if the person is riding a modified triple, they usually
- can tell that the '84 600 isn't a 600, but surprisingly most don't get
- the clue until we come to a stop down the trail a ways. They want to
- know why that old 600 can run so hard.
-
- Its all in fun and if I were honest, the second most important reason to
- shear power that I am into the performance stuff is that with my weight,
- 240+, I need all the power I can get to pack my ass up the mountain.

- Actually, a couple of the machines I mentioned are 'Cats. There are a couple
- of them that are very brand loyal as am I, but we all like to ride and if
- there is one thing I have learned about sled mods, it is that there is
- ALWAYS someone with a faster, meaner, pretty sled than yours.
-
- Besides, I have all this money I have to spend it somewhere.... NOT!!:-)
