  15. My question is, was the original question (this time around) actually
  16. the 10 best bands of all time, or "what are YOUR favorite 10 bands?"
  17. or top 10 most influential . . .  ???

  19. Anyway, I'll add two lists:

  21. 1.  All Time Best And/or Most Influential
  22.  
  23. Chuck Berry          -- one of first greats in R 'n' R
  24.  
  25. Bob Dylan            -- tough to compare with his songwriting
  26.  
  27. The Beatles          -- of course
  28.  
  29. Jimi Hendrix         \  two of the predecessors (sp) of
  30.                       >   guitar rock-n-roll/
  31. Led Zeppelin         /    hard rock/metal/etc.
  32.  
  33. Pink Floyd           -- "progressive rock"/"space rock"/art music/.....
  34.  
  35. The Who              -- classic rock and classic tunes
  36.  
  37. Bob Marley           -- reggae, etc.
  38.  
  39. Velvet Underground   -- one of the first big "underground"/"alternative" bands
  40.  
  41. The Ramones          -- they started BEFORE the Sex Pistols, remember
  42.

  45. 2.  My Personal Favorites
  46.  
  47. Jethro Tull          -- my favorite, gotta love that flute, albums like
  48.                           Thick As A Brick, Minstrel In The Gallery, Aqualung
  49.  
  50. Billy Joel           -- great singer-songwriter-pianist (compares favorably to 
  51.                           Elton John, etc.)
  52.  
  53. The Beatles          \  'nuf sed
  54. Pink Floyd           /     about these two
  55.  
  56. Crowded House        -- one of the best bands of the '80s/'90s, also one of the
  57.                           most underrated/ignored bands by some
  58.  
  59. Negativland          -- weird stuff, but lots of fun;  a different kind of
  60.                           "industrial" music
  61.  
  62. Poi Dog Pondering    -- simply fun, with over a dozen musicians on each album
  63.                           so far, if I remember correctly
  64.  
  65. "Weird Al" Yankovic  -- I'm not kidding, he's great (if you have the right
  66.                           sense of humor for it)
  67.  
  68. Indigo Girls         -- lyrics, vocal harmonies, etc.
  69.  
  70. The B-52s            -- great songs, they don't take themselves too seriously
