- My question is, was the original question (this time around) actually
- the 10 best bands of all time, or "what are YOUR favorite 10 bands?"
- or top 10 most influential . . . ???
-
- Anyway, I'll add two lists:
-
- 1. All Time Best And/or Most Influential
-
- Chuck Berry -- one of first greats in R 'n' R
-
- Bob Dylan -- tough to compare with his songwriting
-
- The Beatles -- of course
-
- Jimi Hendrix \ two of the predecessors (sp) of
- > guitar rock-n-roll/
- Led Zeppelin / hard rock/metal/etc.
-
- Pink Floyd -- "progressive rock"/"space rock"/art music/.....
-
- The Who -- classic rock and classic tunes
-
- Bob Marley -- reggae, etc.
-
- Velvet Underground -- one of the first big "underground"/"alternative" bands
-
- The Ramones -- they started BEFORE the Sex Pistols, remember
-
-
-
- 2. My Personal Favorites
-
- Jethro Tull -- my favorite, gotta love that flute, albums like
- Thick As A Brick, Minstrel In The Gallery, Aqualung
-
- Billy Joel -- great singer-songwriter-pianist (compares favorably to
- Elton John, etc.)
-
- The Beatles \ 'nuf sed
- Pink Floyd / about these two
-
- Crowded House -- one of the best bands of the '80s/'90s, also one of the
- most underrated/ignored bands by some
-
- Negativland -- weird stuff, but lots of fun; a different kind of
- "industrial" music
-
- Poi Dog Pondering -- simply fun, with over a dozen musicians on each album
- so far, if I remember correctly
-
- "Weird Al" Yankovic -- I'm not kidding, he's great (if you have the right
- sense of humor for it)
-
- Indigo Girls -- lyrics, vocal harmonies, etc.
-
- The B-52s -- great songs, they don't take themselves too seriously
