- I have to disagree here. While I agree that the early eighties produced
- some excellent music, I think music, in general, is getting better every
- year.
-
- Unfortunately, every year, there is more and more *crappy* music to go along
- with this great music. If you want proof for this, go to any used CD store
- (if there is one closeby), and look in the budget/really cheap sections. You
- will see many bands you have never heard of, and if you buy a random
- sampling, you will not like it! Well, maybe one or two CDs out of a given
- set of twenty.
-
- So, the percentage of *crappy* music (measured relatively to any one
- individual) is going up every year. The saying goes, "90 % of everything
- is crappy", but for music it is creeping up to 99.99 %!
-
- Also, it is easier every year to not like main-stream music as you grow older.
- If you are young, you are more likely to enjoy something you hear, since you
- have less experience in listening, so most things sound relatively better. A
- prime example of this is the Bryan Adams hit from Robin Hood, which I thought
- was one of the most cliched, unoriginal, and just plain horrible song I had
- ever heard. Many other people thought otherwise, apperantly, since it sold
- more singles than any other song except one. I am a little sketchy on this
- figure, but I do believe it sold millions and millions.
-
- Great stuff is coming out every day, you just have to look harder to find it!
- Examples: David Byrne: Uh-oh (1992, and I am listening to it now), The Pixies:
- Trompe Le Mond (1990, I think).
-
- Just my .16 bits...
