- As I was saying,
- The "official" soundtrack was with "Revolution" on it. Everything
- else is either kinda old or jazzy. I wouldn't suggest any of these
- soundtracks to all those true hip-hop junkies out there. If you want
- "Revolution", then wait a little while and buy AD's "3 years, 5 months..
- etc." on the newer releases, the album will contain revolution,
- (unfortunately, my copy was purchased too soon).

- ***************** Disclaimer **************************************
- The below may or may not have anything to do with "alt.rap" but many
- people on this newsgroup might like to know. The movie-- MALCOLM X
-
- I really liked this movie. I am not a fan of Spike Lee's beliefs
- or the Nation of Islam, or Malcolm X (before this movie). Now I
- respect Spike alot more. Spike portrayed Malcolm X, the Nation of
- Islam, Elijah Muham., Martin Luther King, etc. It was impressive to
- me because he did take a stand. Spike did interpret what was going on,
- and he portrayed who he thought killed Malcolm. Spike portrayed
- Elijah in a way that could upset some people. Spike portrayed
- Malcolm's family life in a way that could upset some. Spike gets
- respect from me because he took a stand and dared to portray some
- negative things about historical figures.
-
- (I am trying to give my opinion without giving away the movie)
- Basically, Spike does take some stands in this movie. About the
- length (around 3:20) the movie does flow well, but you can still tell
- that it is 3:20. I don't care what anybody says. The 3:20 does
- help though. The longer time does allow for portrayal of (seemingly)
- every aspect of Malcolm's life (I say seemeingly because I feel like
- I don't know enough about Malcolm's life to say whether it was an
- "accurate" or a "good" Malcolm portrayal). There were alot of aspects that
- I did not know about. I learned alot and I feel that I could
- hold an intelligent conversation about him now. The best part of
- the movie was that you didn't even have to be a fan of the movie
- to enjoy it. You didn't have to be Black to enjoy the movie. You
- didn't have to like Spike to enjoy the movie. I can say this:
-
- "It is the best biography and/or accurate portrayal of a single person
- by a piece of artwork that I have ever seen or heard of."
-
- Take my word for it, it is worth the time. You can learn something.
- Believe me. I own no X shirts, buttons, hats, or other paraphenalia.
- But I thoroughly enjoyed the movie. Plus, there really isn't much
- controversial material (unless you're somewhere in the Nation of Islam).
-
- (hows this for expressing my opinion without giving away the movie)
-
- To sum it all up, go see the movie. You owe it to yourself.
