Although you make very good points, look at what you are saying from a
different perspective.  PE talk about the NOI and Farrakhan, but I can't
remember right now, maybe I'm wrong, when they came out and explicitly said,
"We belong to the NOI."    I am not a muslim, nor an expert on the religion, so
let me just make a general statement now that will hold for the rest of this
post.  Everything I'm saying is MY opinion and may not be able to be backed up
by actual facts.  If you have facts to prove what I say wrong, please let me
know, as I am not particular to walking around in ignorance.  Now, you said
something about how the NOI considers the white man "devils" and Chuck D is
therefore a hypocrit for hanging around "devils".  Yes, Chuck D has been known
to hang out with devils, even perform with and for them, yet I fail to see how
a man who has displayed a considerable amount of intelligence can blatantly
associate himself with what he supposedly despises.  To me, that would be an
act of extreme stupidity.  You said Chuck D talks about Malcolm this and
Malcolm that.  From what I remember from he autobiography of Malcolm X, after
he made his hajj to Mecca, he came back not seeing the white man as the
"devil", but as all men being equal in the eyes of Allah.  If Chuck D. believes
more in Malcolm's beliefs than the beliefs of the NOI, which Malcolm himself
questioned when he returned, wouldn't that explain himself being able to
associate himself with "devils"?  As far as Chuck wearing a crucifix, I don't
know what the crucifix means to Chuck, or why he wears it, but maybe it does
not symbolize to him what you think it does, or for that matter what it should
represent, if anyone can say what it should represent, EXACTLY.  As far as Flav
smokin' blunts and drinking, no one says that Chuck D is PE's mind, and that
everyone in PE has the same beliefs, or the same intensity to those beliefs.
Flav is Flav, not Chuck. If that's how he chooses to live, and he proclaims
himself to be a Muslim, and that life goes against Muslim beliefs, then yes, he
is a hypocrit.  As far as other rappers who proclaim to be 5% or whatever and
are not living "correctly", remember that these people are human, and are far
from perfect being such, but also remember that these people are entertainers.
They ar basically in it for the money.  Look at one of the most questioned
people as far as this topic goes, Grand Puba.  What is his song from BNH album
called?  "Who Makes The Loot?"  How does that line go?  "If the show ain't for
dough, then you won't see the bro'."  Does that sound like someone who is doing
it to spread the knowledge unselfishly?  No.  It sounds like an entertainer
wanting to get paid.  Most of these people never asked/do not want to be seen
as role models, whether people place this role on them or not.
