- A warm hello to the multitudes of single women,
-
- Here's a story, a very short story, because I want you to read my
- posting and find it interesting. I hope you'll read my sincere ad at
- the bottom, and whether or not you're interested, give me some
- helpful critiques. This isn't a funny story, but is about something
- which interests me: the sea, our travels over it in fragile vessels,
- and coming home to loved ones.

-
- The Captain squinted into the dark, moonless night, through the
- fierce winds of the squall. As the ship rose in the rough seas, the
- cape came into view, and the bay waters within looked gentle. The
- wind was to his back as he stood on the aft end of the main deck in
- his slicker, the little brig's tillermen below his feet fighting the
- sea to keep the rudder.
-
- The wind picked up, and the stem dove into the sea, nearly washing
- the mainmast's crew over the side. On the way back up, he could see
- his home on the cliff, the lights warm and inviting. He could see a
- lantern bobbing in the nest, and imagined he could see his wife
- there, watching. If he was to make it home safely, he needed to bring
- the ship back under control before they got closer to the rocks. He
- shouted to the bosun on the middeck, "Bring down the sails!" Men tied
- to safety lines climbed the rigging, but the ship was being driven too
- hard for them to furl the sails. The bosun called them back down, and
- gave each crew new orders: cut the sails loose. The crew chiefs went
- to the blocks and knocked the lines, while the crews cut the sails
- loose. First the fore sail, then the mizzen, and then the fore and
- mizzen tops. The ship would run in baremasted, except for her fore
- jibs.
-
- They quickly closed on the mouth of the bay, a narrow opening between
- two sets of cliffs. The waters within were safe, but the trick was
- getting in. The crew of the brig stood on her foredeck, awaiting their
- orders. Pushed by the sea and the wind, she slewed toward the dark
- cliffs to the starboard. The Captain leaped forward and shouted down
- into the tiller, "Hard over to port on my word!" The bosun on the
- foredeck looked aft, and the Captain signalled to shift the jib
- sheets. The crew was given the order, and knew what to do. The jib
- was catching the wind the wrong way, and pulling them toward the
- starboard. The lines on the jibs were tightened, and the crew pulled
- it taunt. In a shift of the wind, the lines were released, and the
- jibs picked up the wind again, pushing them port in the same instant
- the tiller went over. The ship cleared the starboard side of the bay
- mouth and slipped in safely.
-
- The exhausted crew pulled in the jib sheets, and dropped the fore and
- aft anchors to fix the ship's position. After the ship was secured,
- the Captain signalled for the boat, and it was lowered to the water.
- With parting orders to the bosun, he climbed down the brig's gunwale
- with his duffle. Ten minutes later, the boat's crew pulled into the
- small town's dock, and for the first time in weeks they set foot on
- solid ground. The journey from England had been long and tiring in
- this winter season. A shout of greeting called his name, and the
- Captain looked up. His brother had come to meet him, with the family
- carriage. Shakes and embraces done, the soft seats of the carriage
- beckoned. Within, the loving arms of his wife waited. Pulling her
- into his tired arms, he held her tight and took in her aroma, the
- warmth in her brown eyes making him so happy to be home again.
- Creaking away into the cold night, the brig and her voyage were
- thankfully forgotten, for now.

-
- There's my little story, and hopefully a little creativity. :-)
- I'd appreciate critiques, especially from naval history buffs. And
- I'd really appreciate comments from single women. :-)
-
- Like most men, I'd like somebody to greet me on a cold, windy night
- when I come home, and somebody to greet when she comes home. A woman
- to sit with in front of my fireplace, to talk to about all those
- topics intimate to us both, somebody to learn about and from, to enjoy
- the magic of life and love with. I'm a 22 year old single man at
- Purdue University, 6'2", who loves reading and writing, learning about
- just about anything, who studies the past as well as the future, who
- finds enjoyment from talking into the wee hours, catching social
- events with his friends, who is intelligent, creative and funny, with
- brown hair and dark brown eyes. I'm a very sensitive man, who cries
- when the boy stops going to visit Puff the Magic Dragon. I love
- animals, and life in general, and find great happiness in nature,
- blue skys, clear nights when you can see the stars, and thunderstorms.
- I love the power and majesty in life. A raging sea, a magnificent
- horse, a full symphony acting in concert, these send a chill down my
- spine. (And it's no small wonder that I enjoy swimming, horseback
- riding, and classical music, among many other things. :-)
-
- I'm looking for a special woman, intelligent, funny, open and willing
- to learn, sensitive, honest and trustworthy. Someone who wants to
- share her life with somebody she can trust to be there for her, who
- will always treat her with the utmost respect and courtesy, who will
- romance her and make her feel special. Physically, I generally prefer
- a woman who is "tall" (5'7" and above or so), and who is comfortable
- with her appearance, who considers herself attractive. Tall, because
- I like hugging, I like looking into eyes, and I like having a woman's
- head rest on my shoulder or chest when I hold her. As a bonus for
- that taller, petite yet shapely woman, I have a gorgeous size 7/8
- purple velvet evening dress for those formal events. :-) For the
- curious, it was a gift never worn out by a former SO who looked
- beautiful in it. But a final note on who I'd like to meet: I'm a
- sensual person who values physical interaction and intimacy, and I'd
- like the same in a woman friend. I'm the kind of guy who likes to sit
- talking with his SO in his lap, who likes hugging and cuddling, and
- just sitting smiling and looking deep into a set of beautiful eyes.
-
- Well, this is certainly a long posting. I welcome mail from interested
- women, whether they live near Purdue or not. I of course promise to
- answer any letter in a thoughtful and timely manner, as I appreciate
- the same. I also welcome any constructive criticism of my wee little
- story or personal ad. :-)
