- | I hit Virginia-Highland most often. Nice little area for you non-Atlantans.
-
- Ah yes, very historic. I always went to the one on Memorial Drive in
- Stone Mountain.
-
- | And the proprietor of Manuel's is one Manuel J. Maloof, the chief executive
- | of our county government. He's a fiesty 60 year old. But the places
- | are all run by his sons. Virginia-Highland is the domain of his son Tommy.
- | I think there are a total of three Manuel's Taverns in the Atlanta area.
- | Oh yeah, the Maloofs are all solid Democrats. Southern Democrats, to be
- | sure.
-
- That's Dekalb County, GA, for all of you folks out there that are just
- *dying* to know. And the "l" is silent, not like those places that are
- spelled the same up north. For what it's worth, Cairo, GA, is pronounced
- KAY-ro, Lafayette is pronounced la-FAY-it, and don't try to ask a local
- where Ponce de Leon Avenue is unless you know how it's pronounced.
- Just say "Ponce" (that's "ponts"). The full pronunciation, if you're
- interested, is PONTS-duh-LEE-on.
-
- | Great place - I once "peeved" here about sharing a beer with Jimmy Carter at
- | Manuel's. It is easy to forget about the problems of the day in places like
- | Manuel's - sometimes I just drink Sprite or coffee.
-
- But you *do* eat the cheeseburgers, right?
-
- | Huggies,
-
- ObRetch: Bill! I'm surprised at you! "Huggies"? EEeeeeeewwwww...
