- Finally - an opening for my latest peeve:

- ] Strange as this might seem, Russ, we need him. Its sick. I know. Its true.
-
- This is a multi-layered peeve. I had told the
- people at work last Friday that I intended to
- take Monday (the 16th) off. My dad died a year
- ago on the 16th, and I had intended to join my
- mom at his favorite local hiking area as a small
- memorial.
-
- All ideas of doing so were shattered Saturday
- morning.
-
- Now Saturday didn't start out wonderfully well to
- begin with. I got up fairly late for me - about
- 6:30 a.m., with intentions of washing dishes and
- so on - turned on the water, and nothing. Just
- small burbles. So I go outside (I live in a mobile
- home), and around at the back where the water comes
- in I discover that the filter I have on the water
- line has cracked. Some kind person turned OFF the
- water - but didn't even leave me so much as a NOTE
- that they had done so! (peeve 1)
-
- So - I dial in to wetware, read mail and news for
- a while (!peeve - the net.constipation problem seems
- to be getting relief), then go back to join the PYM
- in bed.
-
- We were just thinking about getting up - I'd told
- him that I had to go fix the filter - when the door
- bell rang.
-
- Outside is a PROCESS SERVER. Turns out that the
- nitwit who was the third car in the accident last
- December is SUING myself and the other driver for
- $20,000. Although the wording is in legalese, the
- essence of her complaint is:
-
- "There I was, Just a poor, helpless female, driving
- along minding my own business, and this nasty, mean
- horrible accident came along out of nowhere and HIT
- me!"
-
- Now, I'm sure that most of you have had experience
- with at least ONE traffic altercation in your life.
- My dad was an insurance adjuster - so I've spent my
- LIFE around accidents - and ONE thing is VERY clear -
- if you're the last person in the accident chain,
- then it was YOUR responsibility to avoid the collision.
-
- There was enough time after initial impact between
- myself and the pickup for drieux to say "get down,
- wait for it, wait for it" before she hit. Meaning,
- SHE was the one going too fast and who was too close.
-
- I'm still peeved that the police report listed *ME*
- as primary cause. The pickup (in case any of you
- don't remember) was in front of me, lost control, and
- spun, so he was facing the wrong way - I lost control
- when, after his first fishtailing maneuver to the
- left, I attempted to go right to go around him, or
- over the embankment - and he over-corrected to his
- right and spun - causing a nose-to-nose collision.
-
- The CHP report doesn't list him as at fault AT all.
- Long-standing peeve there...
-
- Anyway - instead of joining my mom for an afternoon
- of sad, but enjoyable memories, I wound up staying
- home waiting for instructions from an attorney.
- ARRRGGHHH!
-
- The instructions were to turn it over to my insurance
- company - they'll no doubt laugh hysterically - and
- hopefully tell this nitwit and her shyster where to
- stuff it - but it is things like this that explain why
- our insurance rates are so fucking expensive (peeve).
-
- And if they can't - and I wind up needing to go to
- court - you can BET I'm filing a counter-suit - and
- there will be a MAJOR clause for emotional stress due
- to not being able to join my mom...
-
- Bah.
