  20. excuse me folks, but this doesn't cut it. first of all, it's been quite 
  21. a while since someone actually asked about the meanings of `ob', 
  22. `!peeve', `bdi' etc. so what's the point in maintaining a FAQ explaining 
  23. those terms?

  25. secondly, and more seriously, i have severe doubts about the benefits
  26. of presenting this newsgroup as a place that thrives on a set of inside 
  27. jokes. it does not. sure, inside jokes can be fun, but being knowledgable
  28. about them is not a criterion for being accepted around here; nor is
  29. ignorance of their existence sufficient for being rejected.

  31. thirdly, and still more seriously, i don't see the point in the list
  32. of posters. everyone who reads this group for any length of time will
  33. no doubt find out who writes here, what styles they employ, and how
  34. they compare to each other.

  36. however, even if they don't, there's not much harm done. after all, the
  37. idea is not to be able to spell the names of the 40 most prolific posters
  38. in this forum backwards in record time, the idea is to post *peeves*.

  40. note that i don't object to the idea of having a FAQ as such. but i 
  41. happen to think that there are other things that should go in there. 
  42. discussions on *what* should go there are welcome, although i fear that
  43. doing this in alt.peeves will further lower the percentage of peeves here.
  44. mailing list, anyone?

  46. in the meantime, i am getting mightily pissed at myself for being part 
  47. of the problem. this is my second level-headed, reasoned, and utterly 
  48. boring article in a fucking row [heh!]. however, there's hope. 
  49. it's raining outside, i have to walk home, and i seem to have caught 
  50. a mild fever. if all goes well <snort>, i should be in a rotten 
  51. mood tomorrow morning.
