- excuse me folks, but this doesn't cut it. first of all, it's been quite
- a while since someone actually asked about the meanings of `ob',
- `!peeve', `bdi' etc. so what's the point in maintaining a FAQ explaining
- those terms?
-
- secondly, and more seriously, i have severe doubts about the benefits
- of presenting this newsgroup as a place that thrives on a set of inside
- jokes. it does not. sure, inside jokes can be fun, but being knowledgable
- about them is not a criterion for being accepted around here; nor is
- ignorance of their existence sufficient for being rejected.
-
- thirdly, and still more seriously, i don't see the point in the list
- of posters. everyone who reads this group for any length of time will
- no doubt find out who writes here, what styles they employ, and how
- they compare to each other.
-
- however, even if they don't, there's not much harm done. after all, the
- idea is not to be able to spell the names of the 40 most prolific posters
- in this forum backwards in record time, the idea is to post *peeves*.
-
- note that i don't object to the idea of having a FAQ as such. but i
- happen to think that there are other things that should go in there.
- discussions on *what* should go there are welcome, although i fear that
- doing this in alt.peeves will further lower the percentage of peeves here.
- mailing list, anyone?
-
- in the meantime, i am getting mightily pissed at myself for being part
- of the problem. this is my second level-headed, reasoned, and utterly
- boring article in a fucking row [heh!]. however, there's hope.
- it's raining outside, i have to walk home, and i seem to have caught
- a mild fever. if all goes well <snort>, i should be in a rotten
- mood tomorrow morning.
