  18. This is a good example of why I think we should *not* be
  19. pushing for anything called a matriarchy/matrifocal/matri-whatever.

  21. The argument *for* it goes something like:
  22. Well, we have to convince people that the values we associate
  23. women with are good values, and that women are valuable people.
  24. So we have to hit men over the head with this stuff, to get them
  25. out of the current mold.

  27. The problem is this: when we try to push "women's values", then
  28. we're *MAINTAINING* this dichotomy between men and women!  So,
  29. WHAT in men is this "matriarchy" going to value?  How can we get
  30. to the point where those values are associated with both women
  31. and men, instead of being associated with just women?  Or with
  32. just men, for that matter?

  34. Beating people over the head with the differences between men
  35. and women won't make people stop believing in those differences!
  36.  
  37. Our society has really really serious problems!  Some of these
  38. problems are based on the current bias towards men, which is
  39. based on the (false!) premise that women are inferior.  Will
  40. replacing one false premise (that women are inferior) with a
  41. different false premise (that men are inferior) really change
  42. anything?

  50. Wrong wrong wrong wrong!  We need to have men with a patriarchal
  51. *and* matriarchal conciousness.  We need to have women with
  52. a matriarchal *and* patriarchal conciousness.  Until we have
  53. all qualities in all people, we'll continue to be fucked!
